Having hurt my back recently this has come into sharp focus for me now.
How are people dealing with this issue? I suspect that as a lot of us are cyclists (me included) we are working on our fitness etc. whilst we are doing everything else.
Just wondered....

Well I have just lost a stone in weight as I was too heavy (fat). If I can lose another stone then I will be back down to the weight I was when I gave up smoking over 5 years ago. I would be fairly comfortable with my weight then.
As for keeping fit for PO. Not my highest priority I have to admit.... but generally it would not be good to be badly overweight - obese.....

I joined a gym about this time last year. While I've always been pretty fit and quick on my feet (I used to run a lot) I wanted to bulk up. I've managed to put on a good few pounds worth of muscle and plan on taking a self-defence course next year. 3 or 4 hours worth of gardening still kills me tho!

I don't believe in joining gyms - I have never joined one. I can go cycling on the roads or go walking or running or do a lot of work in my garden or play football with my kids, etc, etc. Why pay for it - when you can get fit for free???

I don't have a bench press, shoulder press, high row, cable machine, rowing machine, swimming pool, free weights, etc, etc. Hence why I pay for it.

I did a bit of going to the gym when I was at Uni but I found it a bit boring and didn?t really keep it up. Personally, I find combining exercise with something else rather than just doing exercises as the best way for me to keep fit. For example, I cycle to work and I do Ju Jutsu, both of which help to keep me fit. Also if I can walk somewhere then I do and I look out for other activities that could help.

I'll second Isenhand on this. Doing a martial art provides mental as well as physical exercise. They are great for personal development also. There's also something else about doing them that is deeply satisfying that can't quite be described.

Swimming is good all-round exercise.

I'm cycling a lot more, even though I was a cyclist anyway. I'm trying to get out and about around the area, it's a sort of two in one project. I cycle to get fit, but also to spot things like 'pick your own' farms and useful little shops in way out villages. Very handy so far.
