hi.
Why not read "The Seed Saver's Handbook"? I borrowed it from my local library and found it really useful, with info from how long different kinds of seeds stay viable, to harvesting and storage techniques. It also gives basic information on breeding your own varieties of plants, so you could work towards selelctive breeding to develop your own varieties more suited to your land and climate type.

This is how Kew Gardens do it, and they should knowgrinu wrote:Interesting. Might do a bit of reading about storage if I get a chance.
Millennium Seed Bank Project - seed handling
Basically - dry, seal in airtight package, then stick in your deep freeze. That should maximise seed viability long term. Viability varies a lot according to species and the stability of the storage environment. Anything from a few years to a few thousand years

Millennium Seed Bank Project is at Wakehurst Place in Sussex - Kew Gardens in the country...
If you havent been and like plants, its worth a visit, especially in early summer.
Ello all,
Does anyone know where I can buy the Carbon Cartridge for the Katadyn Microfilter? I've had a look round ebay and the Katadyn site but haven't had any luck.....

I got my Katadyn Pocket from them. They don't advertise the carbon filter, but might be able to get hold of it. What do you want it for though? It's only needed if there's chemicals in the water - if you get rainwater then the standard ceramic filter is all that's needed. Note that the carbon filters don't last very long compared to the ceramic filter.

Just bought the Wonder Washer myself. Our washing machine has broken down 6 times in the past 3 months, piece of sh!t. I have probably spend more just on 'phone calls to the service engineer than the Wonder Washer has cost me. Just goes to show - technology sometimes causes more problems than it solves!
Between turning the Wonder Handle and chopping logs this winter, I'll be fit as a fiddle! Who needs a gym! (Not a gym person myself!)

Peter.
Will do! I have a big pile of stuff which needs the attentions of the Wonder Washer. After being beaten with a stick!
Not sure how long they take to deliver, but I'll let you know the outcome. Got to be better than our Indes(h)it, in any case!
