What are you growing?

What changes can we make to our lives to deal with the economic and energy crises ahead? Have you already started making preparations? Got tips to share?

We've had a couple of meals with oca (just grew a small amount for an experiment) and quite good carrots.

Chillies galore, too, this year.

Wow - no one growing anything this year... or are we on a different thread?

Here's the Yacon we harvested today:

(Last year's amaranth and quinoa? We didn't harvest the amaranth in time so lost most of it, but the quinoa was great, easy to harvest and looked great while growing.)

I planted Kale saved-seeds in early December but they haven't (yet) come up.

What sort of kale was it ?
I am hoping to save seed from kale this year.
Trouble is, the variety I want to save(a siberian) will cross with rape which we are usually surrounded by. I am hoping the kale flowers before the rape.

I found out yesterday, it's called Cavolo Nero. I have no idea whether the seeds will work, but they appeared, and I like the stuff, there was a bed going spare at the Plot so I thought I'd give it a go.
