Prepared for winter?

What changes can we make to our lives to deal with the economic and energy crises ahead? Have you already started making preparations? Got tips to share?

Maybe you should say " Here in north Korea!"

Sorry to be so pejorative, bet having spent the last week working in that very infuriating, non efficient, bureaucratic, illiberal, culturally backward (by at least 30 years) misogynistic, racist, pointlessly expensive, semi communist, boring, dull, contemporaneously devoid, deader than a zombie with a spade in its head, IT illiterate, spastically free market, pointless region of a flat mono cultured hell,

I reaffirm that the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is the BEST PLACE TO LIVE ON PLANET EATRH.

I have travelled all over the world, nothing made me more homesick than a week in Northern France!

Like them both, I was also a fan of the local, very smelly cheese and it was Beaujolais nouveau week whilst i was there, which was very good this year by all accounts.

That was were the joyousness ended!

The bureaucracy was mind blowing, you could get nothing done unless you had the right form (think Vogons from hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, "sorry prisoner release form should be blue")

One incident last week went like this.

On presenting a form to a government dept, not between 12 and 2 obviously that was lunch or Tuesday morning or Friday afternoon that was another unknown reason, I was informed that I had to email the form. Ahhhh, all sodding week I was informed that they would not accept anything by email (efficiency is a dirty word, makes pointless bureaucrats redundant).
So, off to hunt down a Wifi signal, found one, emailed to said pointless bureaucrat. Went back to gov' office to watch the pointless bureaucrat print the f**king form I had sent by email and file it.

Why could the pointless bureaucrat not accept the form I had in my hand on the first visit? Because he would have to sign it and he prefers using an electronic signature!!

Anyway, won't be going back there. I have submitted an invoice for exactly double the amount it should have been, itemising all the waiting, the printing, the hanging around, the talking to four people instead of one………..

Trains were clean.

Adam - catch yourself on and stop buying candles!!
I have a stock of ibuprofen and paracetamol too - 3 packs for a quid at the pound shop. Apart from personal use, think how good they'll be for trading!

Small and easy to store too.

Yeah, imagine a world with no dentists and hangovers induced by home made booze. A small suitcase of paracetamol could buy you a house!

Well we had 60 year floods this week, so they were nearly right. A pity if you spent your money on snow gear rather than sand bags and a pump.

Did we? I missed them, but then I live on the Lincolnshire coast, not in Germany.

Of course that's a bit disingenuous. The tide line on the new sea defences were 60cm from the top of the new wall that the Environment Agency built on my bit of coast earlier this year. If this tidal surge had happened last year a lot of flooding would have happened in my corner of Lincolnshire.

Now let's hope that we don't get more than 60 cm of sea level rise.
