There should be 300mm of non combustible hearth in front a the closed stove.

Putting a stove into a confined fireplace opening isn't good for its performance, especially where the fireplace is on an outside wall. More heat goes into the brickwork than the room and if that brickwork is on an outside wall, that heat will end up outside as well. It's far better to have the stove protruding into the room.

Where ever the stove is put, the heat will end up outside. :wink:
