Peak Oil Survival and Cooperation Groups

What changes can we make to our lives to deal with the economic and energy crises ahead? Have you already started making preparations? Got tips to share?

Moderator: Peak Moderation

Considering our capitalist economy is solely dependant on growth, which in turn is solely dependant on cheap energy, and at the same time produces next to nothing of it's own, do you think that it will survive the rude awakening coming our way?

I agree. It's frustrating that so many of us are so keen and yet we seem unable to get together and plan for many reasons. Perhaps we could have a new forum block on Creating Intentional Communities and then sub topics for Devon, Susex, London etc and see what comes of that. Any thoughts Good Admin People?
Locality is not a problem, you build the community where you are or somewhere you move to. We don?t all have to be in the same place. Money is the main problem, you can?t do much with out it :(

The ?International? comes from linking these communities together, and for the mo the Internet will be good for that. ?International? is not a word I like for this mainly because I would see it going beyond the concept of nations and encompassing the whole world, A ?Terrain Federation? of many communities all around the World all interconnected.

I can understand the frustration but there are things we can do with out money. There is a lot to do regarding how things should be organised etc. One thing I am looking at the moment is a ?constitution? for the network part. BTW, the holonic futures group is coming along nicely, with a nice handful of members and some stuff on ruralisation.

:)

It could continue through a series of recessions followed by periods of growth driven by 'lesser' abundant fuel sources such as coal. While any resources exist, there will always be the incentive to own and exploit them for personal gain. That's capitalism.
Fair enough, but I think they would be twitches from a dying corps.

Given that we've just had the debate about reducing the number of fora, I'm resistant to this. Why not simply start a post in the relevant (where you are or where you want to be) regional section?

Damian -

Given the numbers interested, that sounds sensible, so I've put a thread in Wales forum for those it may concern . . .

Preparing Intentional communities for post-peak

Post by MaxWahlter »

This is just what the charity POST CARBON INSTITUTE is doing. They have connections with energy farm experts, gardening experts, alternative currency etc. They are gathering information and people to help set up these communities.
And their site www.postcarbon.org allows you to set up a group collaboration function.

Well worth a look.
