As I recall, boiling water with gas is more efficient that with electricity BUT not on the hob, where half the heat goes round the sides and heats your kitchen!
Also, I would have thought that gas supply disruption was at least as likely as grid-power.
Probably one of those Irish fisherman's kettles is the way to go for fairly efficient off-grid hot water. Anyone got that ace link to info on those kettles that we had on the pre-virus forums??
