What changes can we make to our lives to deal with the economic and energy crises ahead? Have you already started making preparations? Got tips to share?

and if you want it in black it's another £125/m.
We just paid £85 per metre + VAT for the S/S twin-wall, and £54 per metre + VAT for the black single-wall. The room (in Mother's apartment) is single storey, vaulted ceiling. We used black single-wall as high up as we could, with twin-wall going up through the roof and forming the "chimney". Stove was positioned so the single-wall flue was the required distance from combustible materials.
Did you do the work yourself? Who did it? Would they travel to within the m25?
No, the builder who did the extension put the stove and flue in, and the flue components were supplied by the stove supplier. I just got their invoice out to have a look.
I doubt they'd travel to the M25, as they're in Cromarty!
However, Machinemart are offering the twin-wall at about £130 inc VAT per metre.

We've been fine in Rye for power, but we seem to have a pretty short run to the 132kV grid from here. Some villages a couple of miles up the road lost power for 5 days from Christmas Eve, and even this week there are still some big diesel generators running small sections of the local grid up there. So when they say all the houses are re-connected, they don't necessarily mean to the national grid!
Flooding hasn't been a problem, though during the storm surge in mid Dec the tide did get very high, and in the nature reserve in Rye Harbour a road that was built in 1947 was overtopped for the first time ever and the scouring led to part of it collapsing (pics on my blog).
We had a run of storms and lost power on a few occasions in the late nineties and early noughties in December/January time. We humans have very short memories.
My mother remembers clearly the run of poor summers in the early/mid sixties. Similar to what we had for 6 years prior to last summer - 40 year cycle?
There exists the North Atlantic Oscillation, which isn't regular but which works out at about 40 years iirc. There is, of course, also climate change on top of that (runs for cover)...

Run for cover? Not you RC. We expect you to stand and deliver!

I said "highway engineer" not "highwayman"
Anyway if you can persuade Snowhope that CC is actually happening you're a better man than I

I said Stand and deliver, not your money or your life.
I've given up trying to change anyone’s opinion on CC. The viable options for action are so limited it becomes a moot point anyway. It will just make the population bomb go off a bit sooner.
