You have to slam me for bringing in my religion to discussion simply because I describe how I used to use my tape recorder and that happens to include church? Eh?maudibe wrote:Church.
Oh, grief. Sorry Lyniezaian. Give it a rest. Please.

(Unless you mean the comparison to televangelists. Anyway, I'm afraid it's a big part of my life. No can do.)

Maybe I was bring a bit harsh, but it does seem that almost every post references God.
I do think that is a bit excessive as PO has nothing to do with religion.
Apologies if I caused offensive.
Regarding wind-up lights, I am a big fan and have about 4 at home. They are safer than candles in the event of brownouts and more sustainable.

Peace always has been and always will be an intermittent flash of light in a dark history of warfare, violence, and destruction

As I say, it's a big part of my life, and the core of my personal philosophy, worldview, ethics, and what have you. That affects how I see things, including peak oil. I can try and not mention it where it isn't necessary, if you prefer.
I have one lantern and the beeping thing barely works for more than about a minute. Seems to be starting to work better since I made sure of giving it a good few minutes wind first, but they do take a *lot* of wnding.Regarding wind-up lights, I am a big fan and have about 4 at home. I also have, or had, a couple of torches which work better, and a light on the radio.

Candles do have a tendancy to burn down and that's it, all gone...emordnilap wrote:Beria, you are a very silly person.Lord Beria3 wrote:Regarding wind-up lights, I am a big fan and have about 4 at home. They are safer than candles in the event of brownouts and more sustainable.
...unless you keep bees and make your own with the wax? (I suppose you might use tallow but I hear that's rather messier and smokier?)
Electric lights on t'other hand can last as long as the batteries and LEDs last, though I suppose new candles can be made more easily.

Horses die, so obviously cars are more sustainable.
