Becoming a swordsman?
Moderator: Peak Moderation
I consider myself a fairly normal person, but I can safely say that I am prepared to kill to protect myself and my family. Property is another issue, unless it directly affects the survival of myself or my family.
I really wouldn't lose any sleep over it, the bad guy makes his choice when he ignores warnings and tries to attack me.

But hurry, I think they're being withdrawn...
Maybe they are part of the same range . . . looks like the market is responding after all.

This is the ultimate TSHTF/peak oil/economic collapse gun.
An easily concelable .22 rifle which will get you dinner.
Some times I wish I was a yank and could buy this stuff.
Not too supportive of the nutters out there who think buying .50 cals is gonna help them.
The main purpose of one of these is to get you food.

How do you defend yourself against a man wielding a gun, sword, knife or stick?
That's all very well but what about fruit?

What an alarming thread! I thought I was going crazy when I started looking at Crossbows earlier this week after seeing something else on here, but it seems I'm not alone.
I couldn't believe that it's legal to own crossbows and keep them at home - and that a simple pistol crossbow costs only about 15 quid (first result on google) - I'm going to have to stop reading Terry Pratchett as my escapist lit.

This is how you deal with fruit..http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=5h_gmADT6DwAurora wrote:How do you defend yourself against a man wielding a gun, sword, knife or stick?

On a serious note: if you're concerned about your safety, I'd say start a martial art - be it boxing, aikido, jiujutsu, krav maga, whatever - to get you a little more used to confrontations, and to learn skills. (To me, the quality of teaching would trump the art in question, I think). But don't get cocky. And don't forget that they need regular practice to keep polished. Plus of course, a good martial arts teacher will improve your ability to avoid conflict without violence.
Of course, there's always..Canemasters! http://www.canemasters.com/
I've been on the receiving end of a cane demo, and if you know what you're doing, it's a very handy (and effective) thing to have. And it can bloody hurt in all sorts of ways.
