barrel stove

Hi, bought a barrel stove off machine mart, it glows red hot at the sides, is it wise to line it with firebricks. Thanks

Have you 'run it in' as per the manual i.e. start with small fires and build over a few weeks.
Cracking that particular one off with a bonzo bonfire will definitely cause problems.
You can download the manual from the Machinemart website.
If you have gone for the big blaze straight off you have also voided the warranty. Ooops!
Am fairly sure it should not glow red.

Hi, yes run in with small fires, only need to put a few logs in to warm room but sides glow, have repainted it now and put firebricks on inside with firebrick cement, small fire again today. By lining it will it make it less efficient, or is it it best to get it hot with door shut and then open, without the firebricks it was like a blast furnace when you opened the doors,Thanks Peter

I have one in my office/conservatory. Very very pleased with it. Easy to get going and shut down, really pumps it out (to the delight of the cat and dogs) and very cheap. And it doesn't glow in the dark! Bought another one the other day for use in the garage/workshop. Amazing value.

Hi, fired it up with a large fire and firebricks in place, does not now glow red on sides, still kicks a fair bit of heat out when door open, just using pallet wood as i have a endlass supply.Is it better to use firebricks or just let it glow, I can heat my 12ft square room up in 15 mins with them out or about 30 mins with them in.Thanks
