Perennials? How many species do you grow?

What changes can we make to our lives to deal with the economic and energy crises ahead? Have you already started making preparations? Got tips to share?

I take the approach of concentrating on blitzing one each year. Last year it was brambles....
Brambles = blackberries - score 1 ;)

Dandelions apparently make an excellent coffee substitute - I tried it one summer and didn't quite get the technique right but could see the potential.... 8)

I had ground elder for lunch the other day. It's a bit tough but edible.

I think I've got around 16-20 (I keep thinking of more so maybe its 21+) but my list includes some warmer climate things: avocado, almonds, olives,3 types of citrus. Not all are producing fruit yet - I have no olives off my trees yet but my neighbour has excess so we're trying out preserving them for the first time.

I find the problem with perennials is finding room in my not especially big garden to fit them all in.
