Let nobody suppose that simple, inexpensive arrangements are faulty because primitive. If constructed correctly and in line with natural laws they are not only right, but preferable to fancy complicated devices.

Many moons ago I had a job building and repairing linear power supplies, none of this new fangled switched mode stuff, which is why I are unmad :tinhat:

Modern, high quality LEDs are very good at putting out a relatively narrow spectrum of usable, visible light. Nothing in the ultraviolet or infrared. It is a waste of energy and defeats the entire purpose of an LED to waste power by putting out unusable wavelengths.

Older generation or cheap junk may be a whole different story.
