Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the joker in the pack, the new President of Iran
The ultra-conservative mayor of Tehran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has won a landslide victory in Iran's presidential poll. Mr Ahmadinejad won 62% of votes, defying predictions of a close race, to defeat the more moderate ex-President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.
The US said the election was "flawed" and described it as "out of step" with regional trends towards democracy. - out of step with US desires and US interests more like.
Iranian nationalistic leader like Ahmadinejad just could decide that restricting oil production is in the Iranian national interest (since they will get more cash for the same oil later) and precipitate early Peak Oil.
We do live in interesting times
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad - who?

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad - who?
What a shame, seemed quite promising, this human species.

Shame we lost that old forum on Iranian issues....
I would say that this new guy is PERFECT for US plans, in fact I wonder if they somehow helped organise his victory (like those recent contests in eastern europe)...
He is just the kinda guy to help the US start a conflict with Iran and he's just the kinda guy that the US public (and lapdog media) will turn into a hardline hate-figure.
I read recently a suggestion that Iran's oil and gas reserves might actually top saudi's in the long run (tho I can't find the link any more!).....

I agree with fischertrop.
The Bush administration (the Neo-cons) has been following a plan for a long time. It's right in front of our noses and yet 99% of us in the West fail to even see it. Strange how we are celebrating 60 years since the end of WWII and yet the same movements as played out by Hitler are now being carried out by the US Government.

Events in the former Soveit countries like Kazakhstan in recent months have been rigged in my view and I don't doubt that this election in Iran is a similar case. A colleague I know who is Russian told me that people in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan were being paid a weeks wages to attend the recent pro-democracy (pro-American) rallies. So much for a genuine uprising. Who was paying them and why did the BBC, ITV et al. all believe the hype. We're being conned because we'd rather talk about Eastenders than face reality.
We should all be very cautious about the US at the moment. Paul Wolfowitz is not a man to be trusted and neither is John Bolton (if he does get elected into the UN). The Bush Administration has been very careful to get it's most hardline guys in the most influential jobs in the last few years. There is a major war brewing, both real and imaginary, militarily and financially, and we shoud all be careful. It's a shame that Blair has also been recruited into the Bush camp.
God help us.
