Hi all,
I haven't been around for a while so you may know this already.
OpenAI has just released an AI which has effective reasoning.
I have access to this initial trial model and it is probably 'brighter' than many humans in most domains requiring logical analysis.
This class of AI is going to disrupt employment especially in white collar work.
Climate change, oil depletion etc are happening in slow motion in comparison to the progress of AI systems.
Anyone (except the top say 5%) who works in coding, planning, analytics etc who expects to still be in work in 5 years time ... maybe sooner ... is misguided.
(Of course the level of denial is stunning : "AI will displace jobs, but MY job will be safe")
Upton Sinclair … "It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it."
We live in interesting times.

Yeah, it's really clever how these improvements haven't required a huge new model to be trained - much of the improvement has come for retraining on successful 'chain of thought' reasoning and adding more comput at runtime. There is likely still a lot of performance improvements to come.

Re: OpenAI has just released an AI which has effective reasoning
I recently asked some form of AI "Things to do in Mildura when you are dead" and it came up with a witty response listing all the tourist attractions.
On the job front I doubt AI would be able to drag an Omicron test kit across a substation gravel and test some protection relays during the night shutdown and plug the test leads into the correct test points (shown inaccurately in the drawings) but given I have only seven years work to go I don't really mind if it does get worked out.

G'Day cobber!

Apparently the Middle East are looking to become major players in the future data centre game. It makes sense, they have enough fuel to run them. Bad news for global emissions though, and very bad news for Western governments if they can deny access at will.
