It is time to disband the UN security council?
Russia has just become president of the UN security council. That is...a country whose president who has been indicted for war crimes committed in a war that is still ongoing. Is there any point in the UN security council still existing?

True..., this seems like a sick joke.....
But then again, the US & UK (also on the UN Security Council) invaded Iraq under false pretenses...
& it's only a matter of time before China flexes its muscles somewhere...
The UN and the UN Security Council have been shown to be lacking so many times...., but is there any other real alternative ?
Having a forum for dialogue, no matter how worthless and empty it sometimes seems, is better than a vacuum ?

Re: It is time to disband the UN security council?
Probably not as it provides a place to expose Russian (and occasionally American and British) lies and war crimes in an open and transparent arena.
Of course having Russia and China with vetoes makes any form of concerted international action impossible. It was the same during the Cold War and probably will be in the New NATO / BRICS future stand offs.
The UKs place on this council is always quite tenuous and I would not be surprised if there is concerted BRICS action in the near future to remove the UK from its seat and replace them with some place more representative of the wider world like India, Brazil or South Africa. I think there is a very good case for India to get a permanent seat, whether at the UK's expense or not is for debate. This may not necessarily be a bad thing as I am sure a lot of international aid from the UK is aimed as stopping this possibility.
