Large scale nuclear desalination.

Interesting news report here. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-61483491

I am not convinced that it it has to be nuclear powered or even floating. Anything nuclear tends to be hugely expensive and years late. Anything floating carries the small but real risk of sinking or running onto rocks.

Alternatives include low temperature thermal desalination, high temperature thermal desalination, or reverse osmosis.

Has no one explored the cheaper options of using less and wasting less water and having fewer people to use it? But that wouldn't be good for economic growth, would it?
