Selling land : 1 or 2 solicitors?

Post by Vortex2 »

When selling/buying land does each side need a solicitor?

Or can you save money by having only one?

Thanks.

For a house sale/purchase (assuming land will be the same) then you can not use the same solicitor as its regarded as a conflict of interest. You can in theory use the same firm as long as different people within the firm are representing each party. Whilst there are a few online only cheap firms, I would not touch them with someone else's barge pole!!

I don't think you're actually compelled to use a solicitor, but it would be a brave man who attempted to exchange watertight contracts and cash without one.
