That is a very sensible piece, UE, and the rise in interest rates just shows how little understanding our economists have of energy, its supply and cost. Inflation driven by high energy costs will not respond to higher interest rates as the higher costs are not caused by borrowing but by a shortage of an essential commodity which is at the heart of all production. Higher interest charges will just add to the inflationary trend as they will just add to the business costs.

Cheerful! It's wrong to say average bills will rise by £2000. [To] £2000 is about as far as anyone is suggesting.
In the meantime, the rest of us would be best employed creating more resilient and localised – albeit far less material – economies, as we adjust to what is possible in a world without fossil fuels.
Yep, that's what I'm busy with.

It isn't just about energy though, it's all the other stuff that we depend on that comes from OIL and GAS.
If we are in a decline of oil and gas production, the only way is down, for everything, Population included.

Perhaps we could use good old composted dung which kept us growing for millennia before we had to find work for redundant explosive factories in 1945!!
What was that about going vegan to save the planet?
I suppose that might increase the amount of humanure that we could use. It will definitely increase the amount of methane humans produce and the amount of energy we use to process all that food that is being advertised on the TV for Veganuary!!
