Barclays always seem to be the worst preforming UK bank on anything relating to social, environmental, sustainability issues...
I remember when I was a student, there was a big move to boycott them because of their activities in S Africa during apartheid...
Suspect they'll only sit up and take notice when enough people close their accounts and move elsewhere...

We ditched Barclays years ago when the manager refused us a loan saying " that a loan was for Barclays to make money on, not us as customers!!" We doubted the judgement of the bank from that moment onwards if they could appoint such a person to a position of responsibility.

We moved to HSBC so we are getting better.

We also have an account now with Triodos so we are moving in the right direction even if it might not have been for all the right reasons initially.

I got a Barclays account as a student for the free 50 pounds they put in your account then closed it.

People closing small personal banking accounts will actually make them happy as they can then close all their High Street branches and focus on where the real money is.
