Is the name Powerswitch still relevant?

I think it is as we are still discussing the switch from an oil based economy to a renewables based economy.

The impetus for the change might have switched from Peak Oil to Climate Change/Global Warming, and perhaps that should be noted in the information pages, but the name is still relevant despite what a former contributor might think.

The name is entirely relevant since all of this comes down to energy in the end. Where it comes from, how it is employed and what the costs are.

Still relevant in my view, we are still discussing the switch from oil and other fossil fuels and towards renewables.
Increasingly for climate change reasons, but still a switch from oil etc to greener alternatives.

Finding a more credible bandwagon is certainly a reasonable move.

There is only one person who regularly brings up Peak Oil these days; only one person who wishes to remind everyone of their past, and passed, glories, RGR.

The rest of us are addressing current problems.

With general consent of the Admins RGR has been banned once again as he no longer seems to have anything constructive to add to the forum.

Praise be the frigging lord....

Actually I should not be saying that. I really don't like censoring of any kind.

But....jeeeezus... what a dick

And I don't mean in term of his views, most of which I happened to disagree with. But, that is by the by

I mean in pure interpersonal terms. Just a proper dickhead.

For example, I happen to disagree with a fair amount of what you post Ken. But, I can tell you are a decent man at a personal level. Same goes for someone like V, whom I disagree with on most things. But, again, at a personal level, a decent human I reckon.

But, this prat had no redeeming personality characteristics at all, so far as I could see.

As regards the "free speech" argument, RGR is welcome to set up his own forum and police it as he sees fit.

I don't like censorship either, but he seemed hell bent on wrecking every thread.
He had plenty enough warnings and seemed to get his pleasure from deliberately antagonising people.
Unfortunately this has been to the general detriment of the Forum.

He was allowed back last time.
Is this now a permanent ban ?

I think the name is still relevant as energy, and how we use it and develop alternatives, underpins everything else.
With regard to RGR, I wanted to ask him whether he dresses as a cowboy when he does his quickest on the draw thing, I guess I'll never know now.

The ORIGINAL RGR was not allowed back, but he joined again under a new name.
The ban of the second RGR COULD be reversed, but I would be rather surprised if it ever IS reversed.
There is no way to stop him joining for a third time under a different name, all that can be done in such circumstances is to ban the "new" user if they are believed to be another reincarnation of RGR.

Some scammers have been banned dozens of times, "exam certificates by post" and vendors of furniture are the most common.
I believe that these are often the same person because they contain the same errors.

It's sad that it came to RGR getting banned.

I hope he can get some help.

He was quite disruptive and has, it appears, an incredible fascination with the right to bear arms.

Possibly the main problem is the relatively small number of people posting on this forum. I'm a regular user of another forum and there are usually 100 members logged on and another 100 viewing as guests. There is often a lot of vitriol but it is 99.9% unmoderated and there are enough people to shout down someone talking rubbish or being deliberately trollish.

I've just checked and we have 12 users connected and only one registered, which must be me. This is a fairly typical percentage of registered to unregistered users so there are many more people reading what we write than you might think.

This is one reason why I correct what I see as errors in things like insulation and climate change information. It is important that we present accurate information, in my view so I will justify the information that I present where necessary, and from an academic source, and I think others should do the same.
