Alternative internet sources

Someone on another board posted a video by this annoying presenter, but it gives useful sources. I don't get how the censorship by business eg facebook is bad, but the presenter wants to push other popularity rated sites, which presumably have the same issue [controlling news by popularity].
Still good suggestions on here though:

I've been using yandex for some time and it seems pretty good.
I've no idea if they're tracking my behaviour or preferences.
startpage is good too but it still uses google, so it's supporting censorship in a way.
