Am having a problem uploading an avatar. I have a photo which I use on all forums, and is fine, but whenever I try to upload to PS, it tells me that "the file size must be less than 6 KB". I suspect the other forums re-size the pic to within the limits automatically, but I have no clue as to how to reduce the file size on my pic, without it appearing as a tiny little thing in which nothing can be discerned.

I have even tried saving the avatar directly off another site, but the file-size still seems to be to big.

How do I go about getting it right manually, without "re-sizing" the picture down to a small dot? I obviously just need to reduce the resolution, just dunno how to do that.

Take a look at my avatar. I recently updated it and I was subject to the same constraints. It is possible to reduce the avatar file size and still retain an acceptable picture. But it requires an optimum combination of reducing the jpeg interpolation quality and reducing the actual pixel X*Y scale.
