Will Hutton:
Britain will never have a coherent energy policy while the market is led by companies that stint on research and development
Comment:
"When I worked in the Gas Industry it was run by great engineers Sir Dennis Rooke etc. Now it's run by conmen and crooks. Privatisation the greatest criminal conspiracy to defraud the British people ever devised".

There are certain sectors that should be run for the people and by the people all the time. Most are obvious - energy is one, health another, public transport another.

But we vote into power those who believe the opposite. We are weird that way.

There again, we'd have climate change whoever ran the energy sector. We are weird that way too.

Would we, though? I mean, at the moment it's run by salesmen, they just want to sell more energy and make oodles of money. But, if it were a nationalised facility, it might be able to move on to providing energy services, hence, insulation, solar HW, and the like, rather than just kWh. I know BG/centrica do a bit of this but, given their situation, it can really only ever be a 1/2-hearted effort.

We'll never know.
