I think maudibe means someone working in her/his workplace, not a tube video. I've long stopped trying to convince anyone.

Just don't show him were you keep your prep stash, or he might be leading the pillaging when chaos arrives. I think everyone who intends to be there as things develop needs a low profile, unless you find someone genuinely like minded or interested. This means family as well. I work on the health and safety principle that it is your duty to point out a hazard. After you have told them, it's their stupidity if they don't act.

after talking to techno-optimists ("the singularity!!") I have a new weapon ..

Another area where society is schizophrenic. We are bombarded with predictions of life expectancy growing and an ever more unpayable NHS bill as people live well past their 80s and health care costs explode in the last few years of life, and at the same time the level of obesity is such that another report projects that people under 30 are so obese and pickled on cheap alcohol that they have a lower life expectancy than their parents.

Throw in financial collapse. peak oil, climate change, and all the other side effects of limits to growth, and it is clear that peak medicine is guaranteed except for the super-elite. I have downgraded my personal life expectancy by 20 years.

Same here. My Mam had a major operation 5 years ago to mend an aneurysm in her main aortic artery behind her heart and to also have two valves replaced. Quite apart from the fact that her quality of life has been pretty shit since the operation, I doubt I will be even given the option when I get to her age.

To be honest, I am not too troubled by that.

Yup the scientists have invented something to deal with the energy problem lots of things. Nerve agents cluster bombs ak47s drones biological weapons, atomic weapons. Hell the people in Rwanda were able to kill 800,000 people 20% of their population in 3 months with a few guns and loads of chinese imported machetes

A good start would be to release smallpox virus in a dozen large, third world cities. Say, Lagos, Calcutta, somewhere in China, the slum areas of Rio, etc.

The virus would kill thousands. The panic would kill tens of millions. An emergency vaccination programme would limit casualties in the first world to tiny numbers. I already have mine.

Shussssh! Be careful about saying things like that even in jest. Big Brother is watching.
And if your SP vaccination is more then fifteen years old it probably will be ineffective against any of the strains they still have in the freezer.

Well if the Gaia theory holds true I don't think we need worry too much about some humans releasing a virus. If we carry on as we are, nature will take care of the matter.
