I read some of the stories of the "we burned so bright" competition. There is one that talks about how important is to decide when to leave. History is full of examples; ask the Germans who decided to leave East Berlin just in time. Or the people that decided to leave the second tower when the first was hit. I'm sure in both cases many people thought that there was going to be plenty of time to leave later, or that it wasn't going to be that bad to stay, or that somebody would do something about it. But they were worng.

What do you think is more important: where, when, or how?

Yeah. To be honest, I feel a bit confused as to when things are likely to start getting desparate, with society breaking down, etc. Who should we believe, regarding the timing?

Leave for where? Venus? You'll have to hope the Mekon will offer you a warm welcome.

We can't leave this planet- unfortunately that's the only reliable way to escape human society!

I guess it depends on your specific circumstances.

Even tho I live in a semi-suburban area, I am not planning to leave unless the situation becomes insane, in which case I'll probably be joining a stream of refugees

I don't think there are many places I CAN go that would be any better.

Plus, eveyone in the UK can't all "leave" and whilst I try to be ahead of the masses as much as I can I think on this one I'll have to stick around and do my bit to make things work like eveyone else.

We could move to Norway... they're a massive exporter of oil. Even though they peaked a few years back, they don't use much. So they'll have plenty of energy for themselves for years to come. Unless the UK decides to invade

But when the gulf stream shuts off won't they be twice as cold as the UK ?

Where - pick somewhere that has a good climate for growing stuff, and that has the minimum people per hectare.

This one is an interesting problem and one that I have been thinking about. Not sure if I have a possible solution but what about looking at alternative means of producing food? Things like hydroponics or permaculture of some sort? I don?t think that that will provide all the food needs of a family in suburbia but together with growing food in a garden could contribute part of. The then next part would be networking with others in the same area and with communities in the country. Hmm ? needs a lot more thought but it?s a start!
