ITV blame it all on the French and Germans

Did anyone else see the late ITV news on Friday night? They reported a story about record gas prices but, rather than blame it on Peak Oil and Gas, they blamed the French and Germans for taking too much of the Russian supply.
I thought I was dreaming for a moment. Not a mention of our own dwindling supplies, or the worlds supply. Typical xenophobia from the UK media again

Of cause, it?s it obvious? It must be the French and Germans. Who else?s could it be?
Actually, the situation is never straight forward, black and white. There are always other factors that influence things. Its also easy to get distracted by minor factors and miss the big one.

I just thought it comically that they focus on the old rivalries rather than addressing the real causes and issues. I'm trying to figure out whether it's the UK media avoiding the issue or simply refusing to believe the real causes.

I wonder though if this could be a premonition for the future! Most of Europe is going to become ever more dependant on Russian gas and aren't we presumably at the 'end of a long pipeline'. Therefore maybe in the long term we might be blaming Germany and France cause they'll get it before we do! God I despair at the media sometimes. All they talk about is prices going up, but they never for a second ask why. Are they stupid or has their diet of dumb TV made us all stupid!

I can say that among France's gas imports, 20% are from Russia. GDF (Gaz De France, the big french gas company - that turned private not so long ago if I remember correctly) says that it is not that concerned about the Ukraine vs Russia conflict since it claims it has other providers it can rely on (I know for sure that Algeria is definitely an important provider for the French).
Now, how about the new gas pipeline from Russia to Germany ? Schr?eder seems to have taken the lead of the project ...

There was a guy on BBC Breakfast on Sunday moring saying that the high gas price was due to a "lack of competition in production" in the North Sea -- i.e., if we had more companies in the North Sea, we could get more gas out.
Some days you just want to weep! (luckily, my PV on the roof, charging 200Ah of batteries in the roof, and the back-up energy sources for heating and cooking, mean I don't have to!).
