At 24 I Knew far more about the world than I do at the age of 46. I have learnt a lot in the last 22 years.

So will you in the next 22. Get over it.

Norfolk in Chance

A few people opined that my age had some bearing on my opinion, that were I older, my voice would carry more weight.

I felt I should point out the courts have ruled otherwise, and saying, "your too young to understand" is no different than saying "your a nigger you cant understand"

I can't speak for anyone else, but I know now that when I was in my early twenties I thought I knew a lot more than it turned out I did.

I intend to know more next week than I do now, I dont see the connection, I see the connection your trying to draw, but its not there

Good for you...

I notice the usual ruling in the courts, repeated today, is that 'being 36 does not make you over the hill', after air traffic control refused to employ a 50 year old on age grounds.

Actually I was being generous. I've met plenty of fifty year olds who have learnt nothing at all since they were sixteen. I've always taken the attitude of learning from my mistakes (and I've made plenty) even if i don't always own up to them at the time.

I'll be quite happy to eat humble pie in 22 years time if you come to me and say "I've learnt nothing new about life".

it kind of depends , in purely academic terms it shouldnt matter. A 24 year trained historian will know more about history then a 60 year old whos happened to read a few history books over his lifetime.

to the best of my knowledge this website deals in facts. Some people are stonger on the financial stuff , some have a better science background.

Don't worry about it Dominic, I was a dick when I was 24 too. :P

Some would say not much has changed since then.

Oh bless, I was so eager and knowing at 24...I had my first child at 24...You can't help but change as you age...My lovely MIL is sooo pissed off that she's having to deal with the fact she will die...she's nearing 90 but she's pissed off never the less. You are no more or less valid just because you're young but it's a fact that as you age you gain more life experience it's what you do with it that makes the difference. Some people age, gain but never learn, some infants seem to already have wisdom.

I wish I still had a 24yr old body...sooo much vigor :)

You will.

So far about 4 people have piped up and said their attitudes and ideas at 24 were, er, misguided. The fact that you vehemently deny that their experience might have some basis in fact is just proving their theory.

Its ok though, and you need not take offence at it. I was a dick at 24 too.

either way, It doesnt matter if you're young , gifted and purple, you can certainly still sound like a dick - age and race aren't necessarily a bar :D

Edited to add: Curiously, the two things that we absolutely couldn't have known about you before were your age and your colour (assuming you are 24 and black), so quite how you could consider yourself discriminated against on this baord under those terms is not clear to me. (maybe i've misunderstood your reason for posting).

Cheer up though ! - greater understanding, fragility , senility and Adult nappies are in all our futures.

I assumed it was the "...in a well-paid job" bit that made the next poster say "that explains a lot".
