Bugger, just discovered I'm going to be measuring glacier retreat in the Himalaya for all of August ... no really.... So I won't be able to make it! Will have a yak's milk beer or whatever the local tipple is....

Hey - don't be down. That sounds great fun. I'll be in the West of Ireland with family - and a friend in her camper van is going to drop in with her 3 kids. Later sis, her OH and her four will also be there. We'll be more social than when we're at home!

I wish! No, I'm risking life and limb flying Aeroflot eeeekkkkk..... and expending 2.13 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere in the process, oh the irony, sometimes I really don't think that the work I do has any net benefit regarding climate change, maybe Tom Hodgkinson is right - doing nothing is the best place to start. I'm looking forward to the trip, I'm such a climate geek, but am gutted to be missing out on the meet up. Have fun, and enjoy a ranty Cat free weekend - try to contain your disappointment

I have family visiting that weekend, and despite much effort, unfortunately it cannot be moved to any other weekend.

Oh my... this looks like fun. I'm close enough to come along for a day trip on the Saturday if I can't get away all weekend - in which case will bring my guitar and maybe bouzouki, and some knitting/carding/handspinning (a drop spindle is so very portable) and bend the ears of anyone willing to listen on handicrafts and local government. Plus sing a bit.

We bought a 40 x 20ft polytunnel from Ebay yesterday and want to get it up well before August. Half will be growing beds and the other half will be available for workshops if it's raining. We've also got a 20 by 10ft tent & Mobbsy has offered one as well so weather shouldn't be a problem.

We're also planning some composting loos and a few other bits and bobs to be built over a weekend probably in July.

If you want some help with the preparations then let me know as I am quite good with rough wood work etc, not so good on the digging!

Thanks Tom. I'm waiting for a friend to finish with his mini digger and park it up back here again before I erect the polytunnel. I'm not that keen on excessive digging either. I've also got to build some loos for the weekend from odds and ends that can be scrounged, so help with that would be great.

Can anyone come for the weekend of the 5th/6th July, either or both days, so we can get things together for the Peak Party? We've got a spare double bed and four bunks to put anyone up and there's loads of room for tents. We'll do the food.

This all sounds absolutely excellent.

I haven't contributed to the thread so far, as I thought there was no chance that I could make it over from N Ireland, but there is now a chance I might be able to combine it with a business meeting I have in Warwick. Is there a way to get there from Warwick?

Can I confirm it is still definately scheduled for the 2nd/3rd August as I may be able to influence the date of the meeting to be Friday 1st or Monday 4th Aug?

Definitely still 2nd/3rd.

By train - Warwick to Newbury via Leamington Spa and Reading, taking about 2 hrs max.

By car - A420 from Warwick to the M40, M40 south to Oxford, A34 south to Newbury, about an hour's drive, maybe hour and a half.
