Christianity is a load of hypocritical bollocks designed to keep the masses in their place. The only difference between different religions is the type of bollocks that is employed. In Christainity's case, the hypocrisy stems from the fact that whilst the exhortation to turn the other cheek, love your enemy and, of course, unquestioningly acquiesce to the Word Of God as mediated by men in fancy dress, and so expect all the goodies in the next life as a consequence, that same Christianity was only actually able to physically spread over the face of the globe on the back of the sword, just like all nearly other religions.biffvernon wrote:Of course it's all made up.
Well, there may have been some historical basis for the Jesus Christ character, but whether real or not, his teachings, as told in the New Testament, are what Christians profess to follow, and to a large extent those teachings are pretty good. They certainly don't allow the killing of other folk, but then that had already been explicitly outlawed a long time earlier and written down in the Old Testament.
Thou shallt not kill.
Sadly, a great many people who claim to be Christians, don't follow what Christ taught. They manage to rationalise their shortcomings and failures by noting that man is not perfect, is 'fallen', but will gain redemption through their god's infinite forgiveness.
It's a handy get-out.
In the end, power is the only thing that matters, either implied or actual. The people running the show have always known this full well. However, they rely on the mind enslaving power of religion to ensure that every one else doesn't cotton on.
