Anyone got anything on covid giving resistance to flu? Or is it just covid being more contagious and getting in first?

Little John's Independent Traders Ltd is now registered at Companies House.

It's first business will be to put on it's books, as zero hours contract employees, a select number of people who, as it happens, also are family and friends of the company director. As employees, they are exempt, under law, from any Covid19 restrictions on freedom of movement or assembly. For example, the three tier system of regional lock-downs or the "Rule of six".

The company's inaugural business meeting is now scheduled for the 25th of December at the company director's business address, which also, as it happens, is his home address. A business lunch will, of course, be served.

Merry Christmas.

The truth is that millions of people are going to ignore any Xmas regulations they don't like, without going to the bother of making it legal via some loophole. There will be so many people involved that the police will not be able to make a dent in it, even if they try, which they won't, because they'll have more than enough on their hands dealing with the usual drunk drivers.

They will have a lot less drunk drivers to chase with all the bars closed so the drunks will be drinking at home.
In the US the cops may still be exhausted from dealing with the post election riots and looting which maybe ongoing come Christmas.

That is the normal situation on Xmas day and Boxing Day, which is when most of the big family get-togethers are. They drink at the home of other parts of their extended family, then they drive home again.

Covid is spreading "significantly" faster through England than even the government's predicted "worst-case" scenario, documents reveal.

The Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) says there are around four times as many people catching Covid than anticipated.

A "reasonable worst-case scenario" is used by officials and the NHS to plan for the months ahead.
So it is four times worse than the worst-case scenario being planned for. Ho ho ho. Merry Christmas everybody.

So glad mushroom season is ending. Two more weeks and I can just hide until April.

New Years eve is often called Amateur hour here as all the daily drunks avoid it and have worked out times and routes that get them home without interacting with the cops. It is the once a year over indulger that gets bagged between party and home. If there is no big party to go to at a venue they will be at home with their six pack and be safe. That should be a quite night for the cops.
The post election riots on the other hand are a complete unknown.

So...new national lockdown incoming next week, it seems: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-54756950 (article says England, but the rest will follow suit).

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-54661843
A miserable year of not seeing friends and family, weddings cancelled, children missing school, freedoms curtailed, careers ended, a pervading sense of gloom and, sadly, many lives lost.

So when can we expect to get back to normal? Do we just have to stick out the winter, before Health Secretary Matt Hancock's "cavalry" - a vaccine, mass testing, better treatments - arrives, and everything is fine?

Or will Covid be with us for years, even decades, to come?

"We might be back to some semblance of normality by summer time next year," says Prof Julian Hiscox, from the University of Liverpool. "But we won't be 'back to 2019' for five years," he predicts.

Some scientists believe that to manage the virus, our way of life may need to change forever.
This cannot and will not happen. Well, our lives are going to change forever, but we aren't going to spend the rest of human history hiding from this virus.

It's going to be difficult to defeat this pandemic when people are prepared to go to such lengths to spread it.
