The sunshine helps kill the bugs and people aren't so bunched up.
However, it's spread easily in Singapore, which has lots of sunshine and high temperatures all year. Also, the second (and more deadly) wave of Spanish Flu actually kicked off in August 1918, with October being the most deadly month. So while we can hope for a summer reprieve, we should not be counting on it.
That's what the guru being interviewed said!

So what's with the idea of putting all the suspected cases in big rooms / camps?

Why do they have to be dragged from their homes?

What would happen here? Would we be dragged off to a tented camp on a remote moor or airfield?

I doubt that there is any conspiracy to stop people viewing the movie "contagion!"
Numerous vendors on ebay have it for sale. Mainstream shops may be out of stock due to increased demand.

It is almost impossible to censor anything once hundreds of thousands of DVDs exist in private hands.

Another in my series of endless posts this weekend:

When do you think that panic/concern will heat up in the UK?

* Already few masks can be found to buy, with little chance of restocking taking place.

* As an example of creeping concern, the staff at my local Halfords have had a meeting and seem to be stashing away masks for their families.

* My wife and I had our final pre-pandemic meal out yesterday.

So when will suddenly restaurants, cinemas etc start seeing fewer customers?

The only practical advantage to that is having a suited up nurse able to go bed to bed providing treatment and care instead of trying to go from house to house and spreading the virus between houses.

If done sensibly, there is something to be said for camps for isolation.
The Chinese government actions look more like punishment than infection control.

I hope that conditions in the UK wont become that bad.

Indeed! Mrs Mustard, keeper of the PayPal, just kindly ordered me a DVD from the big evil corporate Rio Parana (but even bigger). £5.99, free delivery. It arrives tomorrow. I'd leave it in the shed for a while, but the epidemic isn't quite here yet. And it's an urgent instructional vid, so needs must. (Though I do already know they got R0 wrong, it's multiplication, not squaring.) And Gwyneth Paltrow dies early on.

Judging by the apparent activities of what now passes for the British Army, as reported by Adam 2 on this very thread last weekend, yes. But the tents are now sodden and shredded, scattered to the four winds.

This second weekend of torrential wind and rain have surely put paid to that cunning contingency plan. Ex Plague Tent 20 has revealed a few minor shortcomings, to be succinctly summarised in the debrief.

Why, that's a co-incidence! Same here! Except, Mrs M doesn't know that yet.... (Shh, need to know basis, eh...)

UPDATE: Fake video .. sorry!

Just seen a fragment of video. Camera is on a balcony looking down over a makeshift hospital room - probably a gym.

Several medics, no obvious equipment or medication, and maybe 200 ill people sitting or lying down on the floor next to each other without bedding.

The scariest thing is that maybe 25% of the ill are shaking uncontrollably with massive convulsions.

I would rather die at home than in a place like that.

I recently visited neighbours for a PPP (pre plague party) A splendid feast was served including a couple of roast geese.
A slight excess of strawberry wine was taken.

The younger children enquired "why are we having another Christmas ?" and wanted to know "will uncle fall of a horse, like he did at Christmas"

We compared each others doom stocks and general preps, in order that each may correct any deficiency revealed by comparison with others.

Deficiencies suggested in MY preps, not enough face masks, not enough gloves, not enough surgical gowns.

Deficiencies suggested in neighbours preps, torch batteries, radio batteries, Geiger counter batteries. Not enough water treatment tablets.
No spare radio. They have plenty of food, both long life doomfood and crops and livestock.

One snag about all this : when I left mobile comms I retrained to go into a medical branch.

I work touching people every day.

Ho, humm ..
