The bourgeoisie and petite bourgeoisie, in their current guise as the "liberal left" and "liberal right" - up the front of the queue simply gagging for our government to track and trace every where we go and every one we see. All in order to "protect us" of course and right on cue to boot. Just as the ruling globalist class is facing the phenomena of the Yellow Vests, Brexit, the Yank democratic upset and all of the other national rebellions reasserting nation state independence springing up all around the world. All of which, themselves, are the political consequences of the end of physical economic growth on finite planet.
Yes. Of course.
Sounds about right.

Except this will use a phone app that isn't compulsory to install and anybody can choose to delete at any time. Nothing like what I saw in TX a few years ago... Current diabetes prevalence in the US is 10.5%.vtsnowedin wrote: Why do you think the D2 number is higher in the US? I thought the average Brit. was carrying around as many extra stone as their US counterparts.
When you're dealing with exponential growth, the time to act is when it feels too early.
You've turned out to be quite the predictable petite bourgeois house slave when it came down to it haven't you.UndercoverElephant wrote:Except this will use a phone app that isn't compulsory to install and anybody can choose to delete at any time. Tech companies, governments and international agencies are going hell for leather around the Western capitalist world imposing severe restrictions on people’s liberty including their privacy and other human rights such as freedom of movement and freedom of assembly. Simultaneously, the level of de-platforming of dissenting voices all across the major social media platforms has massively accelerated in the last two or three months.
Many of those measures, in countries that hitherto had at least a simulacrum of democratic accountability, are based on extraordinary powers that have been used on the back of legislation pushed through in the last two or three months.
But, we all get a "choice" in this do we?

I am also a bit paranoid about government grasping power and control over it's citizens. I expect any such capability to be soon hidden in the phones and always on with no way to delete it. If you carry a phone even with the power switched off it will track you and report to big brother as soon as you switch it back on.UndercoverElephant wrote:

It will be called an anti terrorist defense and totally necessary for the good of the country if it is discussed at all.
The data and the power that gives is just too corrupting for the NSA, or whatever top secret group is formed to collect the data, to pass up.
And it is the usual suspects who are clamoring for this.vtsnowedin wrote:I am also a bit paranoid about government grasping power and control over it's citizens. The usual suspects being what Marx correctly identified as being the bourgeois class and their wannabe, me-too coat-tailers, the petite bourgeois who are made up of proletarians who have a little bit higher pay packet coming in each month than the rest of their class. Or, they come from families where that is true and so live off their cultural afterglow if only for a generation or so.
As such, allegiance to authority is an entirely predictable position of them. Especially if it validates their own bigotry about the "lower orders". The primary function of the bourgeoisie is to be hand wringing apologists for the authoritative status quo at best and unabashed cheerleaders for it at worst. We saw it exposed in full technicolor here in the UK between 2016 and 2019 and it was ugly to behold.
They adopt different cultural masks to suit the zeitgeist of the day. But, their true allegiances never change underneath. Today, that mask takes the form of liberal leftism and liberal rightism. But, it's just a mask and the mask is slipping of late quite a bit.
You don't have to agree with Marx's prognosis for "recovery" from the capitalist system (I don't) to acknowledge that his diagnostic tools of how it works (or, indeed, any other socioeconomic system's organizational structure works) were bang on the nail and still are.

Steve, what do you make of this Graun comment below? It's all a global capitalist Disaster Capitalism plot, enabled by useful idiots! Not sure if the Maccy D grazers are plebs or proles? Maybe both, which I presume map across to the bourgeousie and petty bourgeousie? Whatever they are, being T1D, I'll avoid the carcinogenic takeaways and infested crowds, whatever they are labelled. Come the revolution, they'll all be up against the wall! There's one smoking a joint! And that one's got spots! Power to the people, right on!
"If the city where I live is any indication (Lincoln), the second wave is guaranteed due to a significant number of people now completely ignoring the social distancing guidelines. They may be queuing outside some retail outlets who are still controlling how many people can enter (many have now abandoned this), but once inside they just totally ignore the directional arrows on the floors, totally ignore social distancing and at the tills they stand shoulder to shoulder. Johnson obviously knew he could bank on a significant number of the public to act irresponsibly because they have extremely low IQs and are incredibly selfish. This serves him well in two respects. To appease his wealthy backers he could get everyone back to work even though it is plain to see it is unsafe to do so and he can also avoid the blame of the second wave saying it wasn't his fault that a great many people totally ignored the 'be alert' and multiple mixed and confusing guidance messages . We have the worst of two worlds, a totally incompetent government who exist only to serve an incredibly wealthy elite and a population that has a disproportionately high number of people who have absolutely no comprehension of just how contagious Covid 19 is. The NHS wasn't ready 1st time around and only managed because the elderly were sacrificed to ensure the public's attention wasn't drawn to just how much the NHS has been run down and is no longer fit for purpose, I hope they are being prepared for the inevitable round two."

Or for a more plausible native, an effective programme of testing, tracing, isolating and wearing masks is a tried and tested way of containing a novel viral outbreak, saving the lives of tens of thousands.Little John wrote:And it is the usual suspects who are clamoring for this.vtsnowedin wrote:I am also a bit paranoid about government grasping power and control over it's citizens. Most countries understand and accept this basic science, a handful (mostly led by right leaning, popularist governments) don't. There's also a strong correlation between this specific anti-science stance and these countries approach to climate change.
It's disappointing to see you side with the Trumps, Bolsonaros and Johnsons of this world on this issue.
Don't buy it, the moment R exceeds 1 again, as evidenced by hospital admissions resuming exponential growth, the lockdown will be back. To be asleep at the wheel once is one thing, a second (wholly avoidable) spike anything like what we've just seen would be the end of Johnson.Mean Mr Mustard II wrote:

Liberal bourgeois narrative personified. That is to say, bourgeois narrative serving the globalist flank of the ruling capitalist class personified. Which, of course, is entirely predicable given that the Guardian is there, explicitly, to serve up the Overton window of acceptable "liberal left" bourgeois opinion.Mean Mr Mustard II wrote:Steve, what do you make of this Graun comment below? As for Johnson - naturally, he serves capital. He does not serve the proles. But, he serves one flank of the capitalist class, whilst the Guardian serves another. There is some overlap of course and, who knows, those flanks may yet patch up their differences. At which point, the rest of us will be properly f***ed. It is only the schism between those two flanks and the weakness in the ruling class as a whole it has produced that has opened up the opportunity for the various proletariat rebellions that are occurring around the world.

I have seen no evidence of this on Reddit. Last time I checked, it wasn't compulsory to own a phone. (China is heading that way though). But, we all get a "choice" in this do we?
