Credible mathematical modelling (acknowledges time lag effect and marked differences in testing criteria within and beyond China) suggests an 18% Case Fatality Rate for Hubei.
This paper is definitely worth a careful read.

Given the potential CFR noted above, I'd be stopping trains to London right now. Probably too late.
Yes, too late. This is out of the box in Brighton. Which means it is coming my way. There is a big music festival in Hastings on February 25th, lots of people from Brighton come over. We are talking 20 pubs rammed with people, with the bands playing musical chairs (each band plays 3 mini-gigs in 3 different pubs). This isn't just people in the pub together - a lot of the time you physically cannot move because there's so many people. It will only take ONE infected person from Brighton, and the whole of Hastings will catch it.

A SOUTHAMPTON school is being evacuated after pupils were put in isolation over coronoavirus fears.
St Mary's Independent School in Bitterne Park is currently on lockdown following the discovery.
It comes after students at the school were struck down with symptoms similar to the virus.
The students at the Midanbury Lane school have have been put in isolation after being checked by medical professionals at Southampton General Hospital.
The school will be closed while it is closed for deep cleaning to remove any potential traces of the virus

Apparently that has significant risks, separate to coronavirus.fuzzy wrote:Deep clean my arse.

"deep cleaning" might be done properly and should reasonably include.
Remove all rubbish.
Thoroughly vacuum clean.
Wet clean hard floors with disinfectant.
Use chemicals or heat to disinfect all food prep surfaces and utensils.
Clean toilets, washing facilities, showers and baths with whatever cleaning agent is recommended. Don't forget door handles, WC flushes, water taps and other parts frequently touched.
Dust all hard surfaces with disposable anti bacterial wipes.
Hot wash or dry clean all bedding and soft furnishings.
Leave the premises empty for some days in order that any virus not killed by the above, has hopefully died.

A manager at the Cornerstone Community Centre in Hove has been advised to self-isolate after it is understood that the man at the centre of the Brighton and Hove outbreak visited a class there last week.
The centre, in Church Road, Hove, where a number of community groups are held, is still open today.
One concerned centre user told The Argus: "The man visited the centre last week to go to a runners yoga class.
"People are very concerned about the lack of clear information from the NHS about this man's movements.
"The centre manager has been told to self-isolate. "People are turning up at the centre and dont know what to do."
Volunteers at the centre confirmed that they had been told by Public Health England to self-isolate.

Response of the UK authorities so far has been poor. Withholding information about the movements of the known cases, "advising people to self-isolate". They've got one chance to keep a lid on this.mikepepler wrote:And more from the Brighton area:

That's 3.68% infected - so far - and if the Imperial College CFR estimate holds true, 25 fatalities in due course. Even with the quarantine measures.mikepepler wrote:Oh, and the plague ship off Japan has 130 cases now.
