I do think that there are technologies that look promising in several areas. I think I'm quite pessimistic by nature and that pessimism is fed by the social and political stuff associated with the transition/descent. Unless we collectively are able to accept new economic arrangements and a different story or myth (from Greer's Long Descent), we will make technological choices that will lead us to a dark place.
