One of the admins at the disease geek site almost certainly has The Wu, but the CDC's test is inconclusive. A snippet below, where he goes to the big box store to collect his prescription...
I took a little of Mom's advice and boogied back to the hospital. They decided I was at risk of pneumonia so gave me a zpack.

I bought some mucinex at Target while picking up my prescription and although the stuff tastes like Albert's rotten ass feet ;) wow does it work.

I went in there wearing a mask. Although it was almost totally empty, if you walk around with a mask on people tend to get the heck out of your way. I went through the self checkout aisle and the attendant there kept getting close to me. I told him that I was trying to stay away because i am sick. He said, "It's all good, bro!" and kept screwing around until I said, "Dude, I have a version of coronavirus, I'm not f***ing with you, please stay away from me." Then he got the message and backed up with an "Oh s***" look on his face.

Lancaster Canal - a very clean canal - certainly clean enough to drink I think once it's been through my Sawyer water filter, I have fishing rods and a Crayfish trap but never seen Crayfish here
Never been that far north on a boat. Lancaster Canal is a bit isolated.

The Crayfish a much more common in the south. They are most visible when you pass down through a lock that has been sitting full for a while. They end up clinging to the insides of the top gates, and if you are quick you can grab them with a net before they let go.

Re: "Pulse" strategy.

I am not convinced there will ever be a second pulse, given the carnage of the first one. When people see how many cases end up in intensive care, and for how long - how many people lose a family member or friend - I'm not sure there will be any appetite for a second "pulse", especially if there's no guarantee that it will be the last one.

Also not sure where else this leads. Maybe a proper lockdown for a month or two. Maybe widespread civil disorder, threatening revolution.

No hiding in the woods or on 50 acre farms with a years supply of potatoes or whatever passes for doomer preps nowadays.

We'll see what happens.
Who's the doomer ? Is it the the man who stocks up on 9mm ammunition ? Or the man who buys a sack of potatoes ?

The person who uses his 9mm to 'borrow' a sack of potatoes.

I predict this talk of nasty ammo will be duly expunged when Adam sees it. Mark my words, for I have Nostradamus levels of foresight on this sort of thing. :P

Sorry. I get a bit annoyed at people confusing "prepper" with "doomer".

An end to grotesque wealth inequality and massive regeneration of public services. Not looking good for the likes of you.

Planning system

Maybe this mess will now allow us to spit in the faces of the unelected local planners.

We now need 'social distancing' as a way of life because we have discovered that pandemics are real and very damaging.

Instead of blocking the building of single houses in the countryside because they are 'isolated' we now need to encourage building of such houses specifically because they ARE 'isolated'.

Put that planning application in NOW, during the crisis, with that justification ... maybe you will get an unexpected approval!

Not going to happen in the UK. The days of workers taking back the means of production are gone. Most of our GDP is financial services, run for and by the financial elite, any attempt to interfere will result in it leaving for another tax-haven. Our manufacturing and utility industry is largely owned by foreign companies, they'll relocate if the workers get stroppy.

Much of our home-grown labour is not willing to do the manual labour required to bring food production home.

All told, the UK will be business as usual, a bit less well off, and a few more invasive laws passed "for our protection".

It doesn't have to be that way.

Or maybe it will sit in a huge pile gathering dust because all the staff are off.

An anecdote to break the stream of doom

Sadly Kenny Rogers has just died.

At about 18 I worked on the BBC TV show Top Of The Pops as a lighting engineer for just one trial day.

It was quite interesting : the pop groups would come on and pretend to use their musical instruments, whilst the BBC Orchestra would actually play the music.

About 20 kids would dance on the tiniest dance floor you have ever seen.

The BBC staff clearly despised the 'musicians' and dancers.

However suddenly security cleared the whole studio of pop singers and the dancers.

Some guys in suits then entered and sat down on some chairs in a dark corner of the studio. I was quietly told that they were BBC Directors.

Just one camera was rolled over to this dank corner,

A basic wooden chair was stuck in the corner.

A couple of minutes later a guy with a guitar was brought in and introduced to the Directors.

He then sat down on the chair in the dark, dank corner and sang some songs.

I asked who the guy was - "It's Kenny Rogers."

The amount of respect he received from the whole crew was palpable.

That's their Business As Usual mode.
