Insect resistant genetically modified organisms will mean an accelerated arms race between those genetically modified organisms and pests. Given that the pests have forever on their side, they will always win that race. Thus, we will end up in a situation where only way you get to grow something is by going through Monsanto et al because they will have created a situation where the only organisms that will stand a chance of withstanding the super pests that they, themselves, have caused to come into existence, will be their latest version of a genetically modified organism. All of which puts paid to your earlier point about people being free to choose whether or not to climb aboard the GMO train.

There is also no reason at all why you can't grow a crop with mixed varieties in a GM world - you aren't forced to use just one clone seed. In fact with GM you can guarantee genetic variety year on year massively limiting the attack surface for pests to evolve.

That's just tosh. we could lose half the world population and humans would survive, in fact we could lose 90% and humans would survive. This may indeed happen.

If you have GM crops, all similar crops grown within miles would eventually have the GM genes throuh cross pollination. In the US farmers are punished if Monsanto finds GM genes in their crops, even if they have never bought or otherwise deliberately acquired GM seeds.

Why do you have such a problem with "pests"? it is a natural function that if you use mono-culture practices, "pests" will take advantage. It is the mono-culture that is the problem, not the "pests".

Since the main GM property is to be resistant to glyphosate, the use of glyphosate is damaging soil bacteria, killing earthworms, chelating micro-nutrients in the soil, and ensuring the evolution of glyphosate resistnt weeds.

Oh! Yes there is! COST. The reason Monsanto are so jealous of their seeds is that it cost billions of dollar to develop just one seed variety. OK, it wouldn't cost as much to transfer those genes to another variety but it would still cost a lot. In a world where the buyer makes the price for a commodity farmers can't afford to pay extra for their inputs.
