Visit the 4 carrier museums in the Lower 48 me and the boy haven't been to.
Camp from San Diego to Forks Washington, and then head to Mt Robson for more of the same.
Kiss the daughter as she leaves with the orchestra for Europe and hope when she returns home that she won't want to return there to live forever.
Learn how to hit the target on the first shot from a holster with the 45, practice practice practice until I get it done.
Learn enough about economics to fight one of them to at least a draw.

Few of my previous resolutions succeeded so I don't bother much any more.

I don't make new year resolutions. It seems to me, one time of year is as good as another to fail to keep my promises to myself.

A number of very good suggestions amongst this collection of resolutions.
19. Shop locally, eat locally and recognize where your money is going. Support your local small businesses, they are the life line of your community.
25. Establish a personal mission statement for how you want to live your life. This should be based on your principles and values, not around other people. Everything around you will always change, however your character and your beliefs are something you can be grounded in.

34. Drink more water. It is easy to forget how important water is to living. Skip the sugary drinks and make water your new favorite beverage, you will live guilt free.
Yup I'll drink to that :D

I'm about to start listing that and probably my first resolution is to start using bike when commuting.

Looking back to old threads is an education (and a source of sadness recalling the many great posters we don't hear from any more. Keela? Sunny Jim? Vortex?). Have a read through 2011 - what're your plans? for instance and snow hope's thread the year before, 2010 Thoughts and Plans.

So, three years on and I've done one wall. Even doing that small amount has made a perceptible difference: I don't know about the saving energy side of it yet but from a comfort angle, definitely.

And guess what - I had to buy some timber but, in the main, it was made using recycled or 'unwanted' materials. A neighbour had miles of used timber cladding (in almost perfect condition) which he gave me; I insulated using odd lengths of sheep wool left over from insulating the loft; the capping shelf was from lengths a carpenter gave me when he emigrated.

I'll post a pic. once it's painted. ETISSM, it looks neat.

Nice thread!

I met this new year in a new house and a new town, with a garden for the first time since I was a kid, so it's going to be a busy one, with a lot of 'start learning tos'.

- start learning to make cider
- start learning to make beer
- start learning to make wine
(is a theme emerging?)
- knit an item that is neither square nor rectangular
- start learning to preserve surplus garden produce
- start buying meat from the butcher and fish from the fishermen, rather than Asda, and preferably without getting all shy and flustery
- get that flippin', flippin' woodburner installed and learn to slowcook on it
- insulate the loft
- and the front door
- and the back door
- get a bike
- cut down commuting from 3-4 days a week to 1-2

Hmm, that should keep me busy!

Get rid of the mortgage, eyv. Do it. You will never, ever regret it. You will know what it feels like to be relieved from suffocating. It will be a mega version of taking off boots that are two size too small after a fifty-mile hike. You might end up with no money, but you will be rich.
