Mama Cass Elliot, thogh arguablly I'm taking it 'slightly' out of context here...

New World Coming

There's a new world coming,
And it's just around the bend.
There's a new world coming,
This one's coming to an end.
There's a new voice calling,
You can hear it if you try,
And it's growing stronger,
With each day that passes by.

Sorry my dear Mama Cass, I know you meant for something quite different and far more beautiful than PO...

UB40 - The Earth Dies Screaming

A warm dry wind is all that breaks the silence
The highways quiet scars across the land
People lie, eyes closed, no longer dreaming
The earth dies screaming
The earth dies screaming (The earth dies screaming)
The earth dies screaming (The earth dies screaming)
Your country needs you, lets strike up the band
The earth dies screaming (The earth dies screaming)
The earth dies screaming (The earth dies screaming)
Despite all odds we must defend our land
Like scattered pebbles, cars lie silent waiting
Oil less engines seized by dirt and sand
Bodies hanging limp, no longer bleeding
The earth dies screaming
The earth dies screaming (The earth dies screaming)
The earth dies screaming (The earth dies screaming)
Your country needs you, lets strike up the band
The earth dies screaming (The earth dies screaming)
The earth dies screaming (The earth dies screaming)
Despite all odds we must defend our land

Half eaten meals lie rotting on the tables
Money clutched within a bony hand
Shutters down, the banks are not receiving
The earth dies screaming
The earth dies screaming (The earth dies screaming)
The earth dies screaming (The earth dies screaming)
Your country needs you, lets strike up the band
The earth dies screaming (The earth dies screaming)
The earth dies screaming (The earth dies screaming)
Despite all odds we must defend our land

Port Isaac's Fisherman's Friends - No Hopers, Jokers & Rogues

Come, all you no hopers,
you jokers and rogues
we're on the road to nowhere,
let's find out where it goes
It might be a ladder to the stars, who knows
Come, all you no hopers,
you jokers and rogues.

Leave all your furrows in the fields where they lie
Your factories and offices;
kiss them all goodbye
Have a little faith in the dream maker in the sky
There's glory in believing him
and it's all in the beholder's eye.

Turn off your engines and slow down your wheels
Suddenly your master plan loses its appeal
Everybody knows that this reality's not real
So raise a glass to all things past and celebrate how good it feels.

Awash on the sea of our own vanity
We should rejoice in our individuality
Though it's gale force, let's steer a course for sanity.

Big City Life - Mattafix
Don't you wanna know me?,
Be a friend of mine.
I'll share some wisdom with you.
Don't you ever get lonely,
From time to time
Don't let the system get you down
I find myself in Big City prison, arisen from the vision of man kind.
Designed, to keep me discreetly neatly in the corner,
you'll find me with the flora and the fauna and the hardship.
Back a yard is where my heart is still I find it hard to depart this Big City Life.

Excellent Candy, thanks for the link. Apparently there's a campaign to get this to number 1. I hope people sing it every time Clegg sets foot in public, and it rings in his ears for years to come.

Sadly I've already signed up to the campaign to get Mr Cage's 4'33" to Christmas no. 1! I suppose I could change my mind.

When The Oil Runs Out by Newtown Neurotics

When the Oil Runs Out lyrics

Think about the fat men who wear their slippers to drive they're cars
while their machines are running, they wont walk very far
they never realise what they've got,one day they will lose the lot
because....
Chorus:
What's gonna happen when the buses don't run
and what's gonna happen when the winter comes
what are you gonna do,
what are you gonna do
when the oil runs out?

Think about the record industry and the people its used
self indulgent pampered popstars which ones did you choose
I'll be far more drastic than no-more 12 inch plastic bescause....
CHORUS:

Are you prepared for such a drastic change of life style
you say "yeah" I don't believe you, look at your home
the things that you own, the job that you work in
they all could go
what about the tax exiles who live in the sun
when the oil runs out, they'll have no-where to run

And what about the comfortable people who just cant go without
they're forever panic buying, in case things run out
they never realise what they've got, one day they will lose the lot because....
Chorus:
What gonna happen when cycling becomes a strain
and you need a drop of 3 in 1 on your bicycle chain
what are you gonna do,
what are you gonna do
when the oil runs out.

Are you prepared for such a drastic change in life style
you say "yeah" I don't believe you, look at your home
the things that you own, the job that you work in
they all could go.
