Italy latest;

2,158/27,980 = 7.71% CFR. It's continuing to climb as the health service collapses. And they are not yet at the peak of infection. 20% is no stretch of the imagination.

This is what happens if your medical system cannot cope

Fragile people need to be off grid for 12+ weeks, starting next weekend.

This suggest that bad times arrive very soon ... as my graph shows, the curve climbs rapidly in a few days.

Time adjusted, probably higher as the dead came from a smaller population.

USA govt on TV now announcing virtually identical measures as Boris did.

Trump is not coming out very well at all, I think many people will now realise that he actually is an idiot. I confess I didn't know just how dumb he is until this week.

Fortunately he is surrounded by some clever people.

France has ramped up its response to the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic, banning all public gatherings and social contact, French President Emmanuel Macron has announced.

The country will be placed on lockdown from midday on Tuesday for at least 15 days, he said.

"Never before in history has France had to take such exceptional measures in a time of peace," Macron said. "You will no longer be able to see your loved ones... or continue your daily routine."

Only trips to supermarkets, pharmacies and places of work will be allowed and all workers have been told to work from home where possible.

There's more restrictions coming in the UK very soon, I think. We may not even get to next weekend before this happens here.

... that's why I will get my last few bits from my office, and get some DIY bits so I can do useful work on the smallholding before all movement is stopped.

A lot of talk about what folk are going to do with all their 'spare time' during the lockdown. We have the opposite problem. Since taking our two children out of school and nursery last week, we have a lot less time to look after the smallholding and do work!

Can you put them on a treadmill or similar to generate electricity, ground flour or draw water? And have them dig up potatoes later in the year? These will all be useful post-industrial skills, needed a bit sooner than expected.
When you're dealing with exponential growth, the time to act is when it feels too early.

They planted seeds (parsley & coriander) today. I think their help actually slowed the process... but kept them entertained for 20 mins.
