I take it you are not 100% on board with herd immunity theory :D

Any thoughts on this? Is Ibuprofen a bad thing for COVID-19?

We discussed this earlier ... reports suggest that ibuprofen isn't great with flu etc. Some reports also suggests that there is a bit of Fake News mixed in with this.

I suspect that paracetamol by itself would be fine.

Quiet night shift for me on Haematology ward. Usually very busy but all usual patients who come in with high temperatures being diverted into quarantined beds elsewhere to avoid risk of introducing Covid risk to current immunosupressed inpatients. We nurses all agreed that this was the lull before the storm. All emailed video instructions for donning and doffing full C19 PPE. Also told to expect to be moved around hospital as need arises.

Personally I am hoping that myself and family to stay well for a few more weeks so that when I am forced to self isolate that this will coincide with a much needed psychological reprieve when the time comes. I already deal with caring for a paralysed mum, erratic elderly father and my own (pharmaceutically controlled) schizophrenia, psychosis, depression and anxiety disorders. God knows what happens if my meds aren't resupplied at the chemist. Still feeling hard nosed about this- gonna keep on going till I can't.

Interesting Times.

From an Australian the spread appears to be a little behind the UK with most but not all cases linked to travel. I think there has been an outbreak in an aged care facility in Sydney which has caused two deaths.
Australia followed NZ in requiring all people entering the country to 'self-isolate' for 2 weeks. This includes citizens but has the effect I should think of effectively shutting down tourism to the country.

Going around the shops I have noticed toilet paper and hand wash being unavailable or rationed. I have been focusing on getting rice for the wife and pasta for myself along with tinned beef. There was even a reduction in price on most tinned items so no shortages there. I even got some of my favourite beef pies for half price.

The Australian government has introduced an economic stimulus policy which unfortunately does not include me. A discouragement of handshaking has also been introduced along with keeping ones distance and recommendation of hand washing and not touching your face.
I am not sure the effect of the outside temperatures has on the spread of the virus but I would guess if people spend more time outside you are less likely to get the virus as I think the UV radiation tends to kill the virus fairly quickly.

Why the UK is going for a fairly open policy does not seem to make a lot of sense but the Australian PM was citing it as reason for his actions such as not closing schools etc.

The over 70s won't play ball

Listening to LBC : many callers over 70 refusing to accept any restrictions.

Sadly many over 70s seem to develop an over inflated sense of their IQ & knowledge.

My mum and my wife's mum and dad are aged between 75 and 77. They all have underlying health conditions. They are not currently self isolating and head out most days to shop, buy a newspaper, go to bridge club etc. They will not be told what to do. Simple as that!

Does anyone have any idea of the delay between infection, then symptoms showing and the infected person reporting it and a case being officially recognised?

(I'm using 6 days in my models at the moment)

There seems to be a demographic in denial.

They will be denied healthcare when things get too stretched. Not enough ICU beds, NIV sets or staff to cope. Triage will become brutal like in Italy.

I don't understand why HMG thinks we have several weeks to play with ..

Even with models NOT allowing for reporting delays or hidden cases, my 100% infected date is 24th April.

(Of course, things slow down after 80% or so are infected)

On this basis the hospitals will be totally overloaded much sooner than 24th April and the crematoria will be VERY busy.

The 100% infected date when I allow for hidden cases and reporting delays is 10th April ........

I simply don't understand what HMG is playing at.

Mrs Stumuz is banging her head against the wall as I write.

Her mother, is in a assisted living community, We have been telling her about self isolation etc, but all you get is a sigh and "Yes, i'm sure it'll be alright"

Anyway, she needs a trim on Thursday and she's bloody well going.

I still come back to the point on enforcement. It takes a huge amount of resources to enforce a gov' decree.

These resources are better deployed elsewhere.

I agree with the use of nudge theory. It will have better results.

BBC4 Radio this morning said the government were freeing up land for burial grounds in the coming weeks...
