The south will win because it's nearer the equator.
And we've got Devon. And you haven't.
We'll come down in hordes, armed with black puddings and eccles cakes, and beat you into submission and take your pasties and make pies out of them.
He speaks, of course, of the ancient Lancastrian martial art of Ecky-Thump. Which was stolen, (coz as every one nars, Lancastrians are nowt buura bunch o'theevin gits fram the wrang side o'Pennines. Th'nars), from Yorkshire where it is known by it's proper name of 'Av-At-Thee and involves the use of shuriken flat caps instead of eccles cakes.
Ye Southerners divvant stand a chance, like.
As to who will fare better? I have no idea. Pretty much the entire country will be standing on tip-toe just to keep their noses out of the s**t.
I voted for the South on account of the milder climate, less need for heating and a longer growing season.
As others point out though, the south is more crowded which would be a problem.
With rising sea levels I think altitude will be inreasingly important, since the weather is harsher at altitude thats another reason to favour the south.
"Installers and owners of emergency diesels must assume that they will have to run for a week or more"
After hesitating a bit, I've also voted South; not because I think that the South will necessarily do better than the North. I am planning on staying in the South so I'm in favour of a reality that fits in with my plans. Obviously, if my plans change, I'll be changing my vote to North.
I don't think you can lump all north and all south together. The west part of the South will probably do better than the East of the South. The south-west of the North (I'm getting confused) - ie. Manchester, Liverpool, etc) will probably do worse than the north-west of the North. As for the west of the Midlands...

...I now need to lie down.
Maybe the South-West will do worst of all as everyone will want to come and live here! (And Andy will come down with his big sausage and war paint!)

According to the definition in the first post, SW Wales is the south-west of the north, as it's north of the Bristol Channel. It just happens to be where I am at the moment, but as a Southerner it doesn't seem like "up north" to me

Oooo...I'm just south of the Humber but identify much more with the North. No idea which way to vote though.
The thought crossed my mind as I was writing it. If you feel you're a Northerner, then you are one.
Yup Devon's great. But there's an awful lot of the South that isn't Devon...
Like Biff I feel very much more a Northerner than a Southerner. We can be over the Humber bridge and in Yorkshire in a little over half an hour from our house. We nearly always head north when holidaying for some reason.

After several seconds shrewd consideration I've decided that it hinges on whether Skegness will recover as a tourist trap and whether the woad-bedecked army will turn back at Derby.
Give me a place to stand on and I will move the Earth.

Nothing exists outside Lundun.
They are also tough so-and-sos.
And there are lots of them.
And they have the Queen and Parliament and the City and the Civil Service.
The rural oiks have no chance.
Nahh.. Leave them without food and electricity for a week or two and they will soften up and show some humility. I promise. Everyone does.
I'm a Southerner and spent the first 40 odd years of my life about 30 miles from London. I've always hated the place, and went there as little as possible. Thousands of bloody Londoners moved into the sleepy market town my parents grew up in, ruined the place, and eventually drove me out to find a more civilized life in the West Country.
