Demand, of 85 billion barrels per day in 2007, is expected to rise to 106 billion by 2030, according to the International Energy Agency.

Does the IEA have a weather forecast for 2030 by any chance?.. I'm thinking of taking a holiday in the UK over Easter.

I hear you can rent their crystal ball, it's usually booked solid but there's a bit of a dip in demand for it just at the minute, so you might be lucky.

I never did latch on to American -illions.

Anyway, who cares what the demand is? I demand a million euro a day!

Donald Rumsfeld is giving George Bush his daily briefing. He concludes by saying: "Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed."

"OH NO!" the President exclaims. "That's terrible!"

His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the President sits, head in hands.

Finally, the President looks up and asks, "How many is a brazillion?"

You can`t help but feel a bit sorry for Obama and the enourmous clusterf**k he is inheriting.
Anyhow, looks like I might be about to join the 2.whatever million unemployed shortly (I work in retail  ). so right at this moment I`m past caring... off to get VERY drunk.

Yup... He's going to get "Change", but I don't think its going to be the sort of change his supporters are expecting.

Being given the heave ho through no fault of one's own is a very unpleasant experience, especially the first time it happens. Illogical, but I remember being very upset and taking it as a judgement on my worth as a person - and the big binge. By the time it happened a third time I'd developed a more phlegmatic attitude. Commiserations, & stay in touch.

Thanks Skeptic. I appreciate your support.
Having never been unemployed (I`ve worked since I was 14 or so, I`m now 31) it`s going to be a bit of a shock but I`m trying to stay positive!

Next stop.

David Strahan and Nick McGregor on Radio 4's Today programme this morning.

David Strahan never mentions the words "peak oil" - he refers to it as the "geophysical and geopolitical limit" instead

Good move - thus avoiding cliched terminology that nobody understands, and avoiding the red herring debate on whether it's a 'peak' or a 'plateau'.

It also gets a mention in "The Trigger" by Arthur C. Clarke & Michael Kube McDowel from 1999.

Can anyone else think of a mainstream novel that mentions it?
