Setting up a solar farm???

Post by Vortex2 »

Hi,

We have 4 - 8 acres which we don't really use for anything.

It might conceivably prove useful as a PV solar farm site.

Has anyone here any exerience of the process etc needed to achieve this?

Thanks.

Again, planning permission would be required for a change of use, Vortex. There are companies which will complete the whole job for you for a rental fee for the use of your land.

I'm involved with a 200kW solar farm, around 1 acre. Two big issues are planning permission and grid connection. Worth having a conversation with your network infrastructure company, find out where nearest bit of grid is that can accept several hundred MW. In terms of cost you can in theory borrow the lot at say 5% and it'll make a modest profit. Alternatively (more administration) you could set up a community energy company, fund the build with community shares.

You'd need a couple thousand up front to secure planning.
