New coronavirus in/from China

Want to know the truth about the NHS bed capacity being "overwhelmed" due to Covid 19? It's bullshit. You are being lied to. Again. Don't believe me? Here are some more facts:
Firstly, hospital bed capacity in the NHS has been in terminal decline due to cutbacks since 2000 falling from a high of 240,000 beds in 2000 down to 164,000 last year in 2019. That's a fall of around 75,000 beds.

All of which has led to the NHS being on the verge of being overwhelmed every year at around this time of year when the flu season starts. Don't believe me? Here is a Guardian article from roughly this time last year outlining that bed capacity was about to be "overwhelmed".

This has been the case for many years at this time of year.

Total bed occupancy at the present moment is within the usual range for the time of year, given current capacitykenneal - lagger wrote:But last year hospitals hadn't been cleared out to make way for covid patients.

In Wales, it has been announced that supermarkets may only sell "essential goods". This is contrary to the policy in the earlier lockdown during which supermarkets could sell anything.
The new policy does in some respects seem fairer to smaller retailers. In the earlier lockdown it did seem unfair that clothes shops had to shut, but supermarkets could sell clothes.
Home electronics also, and many other items.
I do however expect a great deal of argument and dispute as to what is "essential"
Alcoholic drink ?
Confectionery ?
Smoked salmon ?
Christmas puddings ?
And what about thermal underwear, heating appliances, and blankets or duvets ? Most people who need these items will already have them and will not need to buy more in the short term.
Plentiful sources of dispute and argument though. "I washed my child's duvet and it came apart, and they wont let me buy a replacement"
"My heating is broken and they wont let me buy a fan heater"
This will slightly hasten the move towards shopping on line, no restrictions there !

Imagine being the poor sod that has to come up with the list of what is "essential' and defend it!! I can see it now.
Government; video games are not essential.
Customer: But that game is what is keeping me sane during lock down!
Government: OK but you can have sims but not world of war craft.
Etc. etc.

There are several sources of on the web corroborating my immediately previous post. There was aslo, until only last week, the source data on the NHS website itself corroborating it. But that data has been removed sometime in the last 7 days. Funny that....kenneal - lagger wrote:And you are just ignoring facts which don't fit with your conspiracy theories.
So, I have put in a FOI to the NHS for the information. It will be instructive as to how long it takes for them to reply, assuming they even reply.
Good evening. My name is Stephen Cook. My full contact details are:
I wish to make an FOI request as to the following information;
Weekly total critical care bed occupancy in the NHS for the years 2000 to the latest week ending in the present month (October 2020)
Weekly total admissions to hospital for the years 2000 to the latest week ending in the present month (October 2020)
I look forward to your reply
Regards
Stephen Cook

LJ, you are conveniently ignoring the fact that hospitals reduced their non Covid workload before they were loaded up with Covid patients in March and April. Last year and now they also have a large number of non Covid patients as well as flu and Covid patients. You are complaining that people are dying for lack of treatment and you are advocating exactly the conditions that will ensure a lack of treatment for many people through a large number of people contracting the virus at any one time.

Getting the excuses in early for when the data shows no extra total hospital admission or deaths?kenneal - lagger wrote:LJ, you are conveniently ignoring the fact that hospitals reduced their non Covid workload before they were loaded up with Covid patients in March and April. A curious fact that Sweden has just had it's least deadly single month in the last 160 years...

NHS Hospitals [on average] have less patients than usual for all 2020 up until now. They were never 'loaded up' anytime because they built batflu overflow hospitals which were never used AFAIK. Presumably the bottleneck would have been the prima donna nursing staff who work any hours they choose.
Well surprise surprise. The official daily death toll is about to be scrapped.
