I have a bit of a personal grudge against Yoga which is poss unfair because I've never tried it. But it always seems to cost too damn much...meaning that, in order simply to take part, one has to give oneself up to the psychos. Or be very lucky. If the latter, then doing Yoga turns into a form of boasting.

I've done yoga in a class, still do some movements, infrequently on my own. It's extremely physical (at least, the version I got involved with). In fact, it was so physical I couldn't manage some of it and I'm above-average fit. One older guy who could had been going to classes for years.
I agree it's too expensive. The one I went to, she did three evenings a week plus some day time sessions. She was pulling in roughly €1,000 for the three evenings (nine hours' worth ) but fair play to her. She's not psycho.
Meditation is one thing; the (only) yoga I've done was tough.

Yoga classes are quite expensive (generally £8/class down here in Brighton), but yoga itself is free. I generally go to a class a week, to keep me motivated and learning, but I practise most days at home using my memory, a book, or on less inspired days YouTube (look out for a channel called YogaYak).
It's great and all, but as emordnilap says, it's just a symbol. Not the thing itself, just a way into it. I tend to be a much more useful, practical, responsive, energised and optimistic person when I'm practising than when I've let it slide for a while. Never can quite explain why.

I'm mostly knackered after it. Mind you, amongst other things, it was a great exercise in breath control. The noise others in the class make was a motivation - huffing, puffing, blowing, sighing, explosive bursts, grunts, cries, farts, exclamations and expostulations made me try really hard to be silent.eyeswide wrote:I tend to be a much more useful, practical, responsive, energised and optimistic person when I'm practising than when I've let it slide for a while. If I was in a tight place he'd be about a 2 out of a 10 of the sort of person I'd want to be around, maybe even a 1 out of a ten

Was, Friedrich, aware of Göbekli Tepe and and an evolved sense of dominion? Did 'god' not DIE the moment we contemplated it?...and now we are gods of the anthropocene, what do 'we' do?jonny2mad wrote: Ive worked at lots of hippy pop festivals and there is a guy organises festivals who all he does is talk hippy platitudes that really reminds me of brand, he doesnt look like him but hes much like him

Apart from regurgitating platitudes of platitudes, what would you like to see happen on this completely wonderous bit of rock that we're ALL born ensconced to?...what do YOU.....WANT?

Russell Brand has no plan, no answers and didn't put together the video linked to in the opening post. Somebody else did that. Russell Brand is what he is - an ex-Radio-1-DJ, ex-junkie who has decided he has had enough of the bullshit of mainstream politics and media and has no fear of saying precisely what he thinks about those things. And what he is saying is a combination of mysticism and left-wing politics, which were always related, sort of.peaceful_life wrote:How does this correlate with the immigration thread?UndercoverElephant wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bKQXmvd ... ture=share
Unfortunately, it is not quite accurate to say that the only thing that matters to any of us is love. If you don't have enough food, or enough fuel to keep warm if the climate is cold, then all the love in the world is not enough. "Love", in a Brandian sense, matters a whole load more than the bullshit we in the "developed" world are being continually peddled by the corporate fascists that rule us. Those same corporate fascists are trying to deny people in the "developing" world of free water, so it is hardly surprising they want to come here.
Oh what a f***ed up world we live in. Into the arms of Derrick Jensen I fall...
Put another way: as soon as you try to put together a credible plan, unlimited movement of people across the borders of the area you live in makes a mockery of your plan. This statement happens to be much easier to make if you live on an island which is also a distinct political entity.

Can I just ask why you felt impulsed to post it?UndercoverElephant wrote:Russell Brand has no plan, no answers and didn't put together the video linked to in the opening post. Somebody else did that.
