This idea of mal-distribution doesn't tally with the population explosion.

if we were distributing so badly, how come the population was going up (i.e. each year we were feeding more)

i think waste is inevitable - you can't look outside of the system and assume 100% efficiency is impossible. there's complexity associated with what we're doing. even agriculture is going against the grain of how nature works.

we're not evolved for certain types of back breaking toil and agricultural diets. some bad habits are ways of letting out instincts be better satisfied.
