Interesting article about the roll-out of UHF-based broadband in Kenya. An example of an area "leapfrogging" a couple of technological development stages to produce an appropriate solution for that particular community.

Aren't I right in thinking 4G mobile networks over here are essentially similar, using the same UHF waveband that was hitherto used by TV?

4G in the UK uses its own dedicated bands, often the same ones previously used for cell phones. What's interesting here is that it's using 'white space', it fits between the TV transmitters, in the same bands. Don't think anyone's using white space yet in the UK.
