GM foods story in papers
I was wondering what the forums in house agricultural experts made of this article, I dont have any experience in this contentious issue and wondered what the consensus was ?

As this is PowerSwitch - with all the implications of a decline in quantity and quality of fossil energy - then use of any technology that requires massive inputs of that energy must also decline.
Not only that, no GM techology has so far produced a single benefit. No, that's not strictly true. The benefits to the shareholders of Syngenta, Bayer, Monsanto, etc are huge.

IMO, one of the most insidious and sinister aspects of GM crop manipulation, is the fact that the copyright to the DNA is effectively owned by the manufacturer. This makes the saving of seeds for replanting by farmers technically a copyright breach, meaning they are either locked in forever to buying seeds from the manufacturer each year, or run the risk of being sued. It's happened in Canada.

Yeah, I heard about that too. Seems like the manufacturers (no names mentioned!) have adopted a business model that involves securing the intellectual property, then just waiting for some hapless farmer to come along and fall into the legal trap. Spiders and webs come to mind. Not exactly a sustainable or customer-focused approach to business!

Seeds of freedom.....
The story of seed has become one of loss, control, dependence and debt.
It's been written by those who want to make vast profit from our food system, no matter what the true cost. It's time to change the story.

Genetic Roulette.
Genetic Roulette.
Bitter Seeds. When the US government ignored repeated warnings by its own scientists and allowed untested genetically modified (GM) crops into our environment and food supply, it was a gamble of unprecedented proportions. The health of all living things and all future generations were put at risk by an infant technology.
After two decades, physicians and scientists have uncovered a grave trend. The same serious health problems found in lab animals, livestock, and pets that have been fed GM foods are now on the rise in the US population. And when people and animals stop eating genetically modified organisms (GMOs), their health improves.
This seminal documentary provides compelling evidence to help explain the deteriorating health of Americans, especially among children, and offers a recipe for protecting ourselves and our future.

In "Bitter Seeds" [...] Peled "suggests that impoverished cotton farmers in India have it especially tough because Monsanto has taken over the seed market with a genetically modified seed with hybrid technology that produces high yields but cannot renew itself," according to FirstPost.in.
Already, opposition to GM food crops, such as Bt Brinjal (genetically modified eggplant), has been fierce, with activists citing health and environmental concerns.

Awareness in Kenya.
This she says was following the decision made by the cabinet to ban the importation of GMO foods into the country due to inadequate research done on GMOs and scientific evidence provided to prove the safety of the foods until such a time that the country will certify that they have no negative impacts on the health of consumers.

I should imagine the author has quite rightly been threatened with legal action for talking out his hat if the quotes are anything to go by.woodburner wrote:I get a "private video" message.emordnilap wrote:Some more must-see videos to download:

Products in India now have to have 'GM' printed on their packaging in their 'principal display panel'.
Mor here.
So simple, yet so difficult.
