Is there? I have a CO2 pistol, I would be interested to know of any change in legislation which might affect me . . .There is legislation being proposed to put much greater controls over these type of weapons.
Where are the Survivalists?

The airsoft community was up in arms about it because it could potentially ban airsoft weapons.

After guns, then knives, certain categories of toy are considered a significant danger in the wrong hands (ie the public's). It would be funny if it weren't tragic.
Considering weapons for potential use against other people is, I think, very dangerous in the current climate (war on terror, trigger-happy police etc). I suppose this explains why there is little open survivalist discussion in the UK.
I currently live in France where I can legitimately have a shotgun (still a mundane item here) for subsistence and self defence. I'm hoping that the lingering rural culture will make the post-peak transisition smoother than in the UK, which seems way too crowded to sustain its current population.
I also fear that the UK will suffer a lot of violence, as there are more and more guns in the hands of thugs, while responsible citizens have been systematically disarmed. The common error is to blame the breakdown of human relationships on gun ownership. The problem now is that there are so many illegal guns in circulation that are effectively beyond control.
To my mind, motor vehicles are the most ubiquitous and and potent accessory to social breakdown. Less personal transport will eventually lead to less crime, along with stronger communities. Maybe we can all then live happily post-peak, with or without guns. It's just a matter of surviving the transition.

I fear there will be violence in a lot of places throughout the world if it gets that bad. I can see a depopulation of the UK being relatively non-violent.PhilSage wrote: I also fear that the UK will suffer a lot of violence, as there are more and more guns in the hands of thugs, while responsible citizens have been systematically disarmed. Lets face it, many people are here because they are afforded a better standard of living and when that standard of living starts to become diminished, surely that person would move away. Then there's the fat and lazy they'll soon go, then the smokers (I'm one of them).
I agree with you about the right to defend yourself though.

Martial arts based around the open hand are the best for self defence of the individual. The comunity is the best defense for the group. basicly the america/europe debate can be summed thus.
The founding farthers ran away from thier problems and that sense of fear has stayed within the american pshcye passed on from generation to generation.
Here in europe we kind of worked through things usually through revolution or war niether side can claim the moral high ground here.
Simply put the human brain still thinks it's in africa, and we view people who are diffrent as a threat to resources.
I would describe my self as a survivalist. I want to survive !!!! I hope that my skills will enable the group to survive thus increasing my chances of survival as a needed member of said group.
hope that helps a bit.

Survivalist? Is it a label or a mind set?
I've survived lots of crappy situations thus far, I intend to get through any others that present themselves. Be they, environmental, economic or claw hammer armed chav in nature.
I moved back to the UK to avoid having to walk around "strapped". Living in a country where everyone is a trigger happy nutter is just not conducive to survival.

its not hard to make just about any firearm there are lots of books written on how to make your own submachine gun, rifle, bazooka, pistol, flamethrower you name it .
Look on DODGY TAX AVOIDERS.co.uk, lots of people have lathes for model making, again there are books on making your own lathe out of scrap so really all you need is a quantity of metal .
The hardest thing to make would be primers but you could use primers from blank firing guns the rest of a bullet isnt that hard to make including the main charge , so whatever law the government brings in you wont stop people arming themselves .
Theres a british guy called luty who when they were banning hand guns made a submachine gun to prove that a ban on hand guns was nonsense they jailed him but I think he proved his point .
This is lutys site

the mistral machine gun is a lot more fancy again designed to be built by the home handyman

Having an improvised weapon and ammo probably only increases your chance of arrest.

And that makes you a survivalist. It is indeed a mindset. If someone has insurance for something they are kind of a survivalist. Some people take it a little bit further.Haggis wrote:Having an improvised weapon and ammo probably only increases your chance of arrest.
It's a not a step I'd consider until they request the handing in of all legal firearms.
